You can use your UniCash balance to pay at any business that accepts UniPay. Payments are instant and there are no fees for the customer.
What you need before paying
- A UniCash account with sufficient balance
- The UniCash app installed on your phone
- The merchant must be a registered UniPay merchant
Three ways to pay
Scan the QR code
The merchant shows a payment QR code on their UniPay app or Terminal. Open your UniCash app, tap Pay, point your camera at the code, check the amount, and confirm with your PIN.
Tap your phone
If the merchant has a UniPay Terminal, just tap your phone to it. Your UniCash app opens automatically with the payment — check the amount and confirm. You don't need to open the app first.
Tap from your Wallet
Once you've added your UniCash card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, double-press the side button, choose your UniCash card, and tap it to the Terminal to pay.
Step-by-step: scan the QR code
- The merchant enters the amount on their UniPay app or Terminal
- A payment QR code appears on their screen
- Open your UniCash app and tap Pay (or Scan)
- Point your camera at the QR code — the amount appears automatically
- Check the amount and merchant name, then confirm with your PIN
- You'll see a green confirmation — the payment is done
Step-by-step: tap your phone
- The merchant enters the amount on UniPay Terminal
- Terminal prompts you to tap
- Tap the back of your phone against the Terminal's NFC symbol
- Your UniCash app opens automatically with the payment
- Check the amount and confirm with your PIN
- Both your phone and the Terminal show a confirmation
Step-by-step: tap from your Wallet
- The merchant enters the amount on UniPay Terminal
- Double-press the side button and authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode
- Select your UniCash card if it isn't already showing
- Tap your phone to the Terminal's NFC symbol
- Both your phone and the Terminal show a confirmation — done
After you pay
Once a payment is made, it appears immediately in your transaction history. The amount is deducted from your balance instantly. Payments can’t be reversed by you directly — if you paid the wrong amount or have a dispute, contact the merchant.
What if my payment fails?
Common reasons a payment might fail:
- Insufficient balance — your UNC balance is less than the payment amount
- QR code expired — QR codes expire after a few minutes; ask the merchant to generate a new one
- No internet connection — both you and the merchant need a connection to process the payment
- Account not verified — complete identity verification to enable payments
