Creating a UniCash account is quick. You can do it in the UniCash app or in your browser — the steps are the same either way.
There are two parts, and they run back to back: first you create your account (the steps below), then you verify your identity. Verification is required — UniCash takes you straight into it after you set your PIN, and you'll need to finish it before you can start using the app to top up, send UNC, or pay at merchants.
What you'll need
- A smartphone running iOS 15+ or Android 9+, or any modern web browser
- A mobile phone number that can receive SMS
- An email address you can access
- A government-issued photo ID (for identity verification) — a driver's licence or passport works best
Part 1 — Create your account
-
1
Open UniCash and tap "Create account"
Install the UniCash app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android), or open UniCash in your browser. Tap Create account to begin.
-
2
Enter and verify your phone number
Enter your mobile number. We'll send a 6-digit code by SMS — enter it to confirm the number is yours.
-
3
Enter and verify your email
Add your email address. We'll send a 6-digit code to your inbox — enter it to confirm your email.
-
4
Choose your handle
Pick a unique @handle (3–30 letters, numbers, or underscores). This is how other people find and send UNC to you. We'll tell you instantly if it's available.
-
5
Create a password
Set a password of at least 8 characters, with a mix of upper and lower case and at least one number. You'll use this to sign in.
-
6
Add an authenticator app (optional)
All accounts use email two-factor sign-in by default. For an extra layer of security, you can also add an authenticator app — scan the QR code or copy the key, or tap Skip for now and add it later in Settings.
-
7
Set your PIN
Choose a 4-digit PIN. You'll use it to unlock the app and confirm payments. Don't share your PIN with anyone.
Part 2 — Verify your identity
Right after you set your PIN, UniCash takes you straight into identity verification. You'll be asked for:
- A few personal details (name, date of birth)
- Your residential address
- A photo of your government-issued ID
- A quick selfie to match your face to your ID
It's a one-time check. Once you're verified, your account is fully unlocked. For a full walkthrough, see Identity verification.
Can I have more than one account?
Each phone number can only be linked to one UniCash account. If you need to update your phone number or email on your account, you can do it yourself — tap your profile picture in the top-right corner, open Settings → Account details, and change it there. You'll confirm the new number or email with a verification code.
Trouble receiving your verification code?
If your SMS or email code doesn't arrive within a couple of minutes:
- Check that you entered the correct phone number or email address
- Check your phone has signal, or look in your email spam folder
- Tap "Resend code" to request a new one
